THE BLOB in Partnership with UBC Japan Association

March 18th, 7:00 – 10:00pm

At Simon K.Y. Lee Global Lounge in Marine Drive

Like the rest of the UBC community, ACCO has been closely following the news concerning the Tsunami crisis in Japan.  We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to anyone who has been affected by this horrific event.

ACCO has decided to donate 100% of all ticket sales from The Blob, our annual music and art festival, to the Canadian Red Cross in support of the Tsunami relief aid in Japan.  We encourage anyone and everyone to come out this Friday March 18th @ 7pm to the Global Lounge at Marine Drive.  If you can’t make it, you can always make a personal donation directly here: http://www.google.com/crisisresponse/japanquake2011.html

ACCO has a long history of utilizing art, film, and music to connect and engage people, cross-culturally, to address pertinent social issues affecting Asian Canadians and Asians abroad.  More than ever, we need to come together NOW and do what we can to help the relief effort in Japan.  ACCO’s event this Friday is the perfect opportunity to show the world how powerful art and community engagement can be.

We thank you for all of your support so far, and we look forward to a great event this Friday.

See you all soon,

ACCO Executive

S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Youths raise awareness for organ transplantation in BC

18 Oct
The Youth Leadership Millennium Program, an initiative of the non-profit social service organization S.U.C.C.E.S.S.,  is a six month long program that helps foster the leadership and personal development of young people in the Lower Mainland. This year, ten participants are raising awareness for  organ transplantation in BC, especially with regards to the minority Asian population. This is a free event happening on October 23rd, starting at 1:30pm at the S.U.C.C.E.S.S.  Downtown offices at 28 West Pender Street. Event includes the group’s very own film documentary, speakers from BC Transplant, and FREE games and prizes. Don’t miss this chance to support our Asian Canadian youths volunteering for a great cause in the community!

More on the event:

To this day, there are many patients that are eagerly waiting for a suitable organ, but due to the lack of donors, many do not get a new opportunity at life, especially ones of the minority population. On October 23, we will host an event to raise awareness regarding the issue of organ transplant. The feature of the event is a documentary, which includes interviews with organ transplant recipients, donors and their family members, and also has a touching and realistic story of how a person goes through the process of an organ transplant. There will also be guest speakers and activity booths to answer all your organ transplant related questions.
